What is a Town Hall?
At Face the People, we believe one thing above all: elected officials work for us—the American people. Town halls are one of the oldest and most powerful traditions in our democracy. They are live, unscripted public meetings where members of Congress stand before their constituents, listen to our concerns, and answer our questions face-to-face. These gatherings are more than just events—they are a fundamental part of American accountability.
From school gymnasiums to local libraries, town halls have long been where the heartbeat of democracy is felt loudest. They allow neighbors to speak directly to power, and for elected leaders to hear the voices of the people they serve—not just the voices of donors, lobbyists, or cable news pundits.
But here's the truth: members of Congress are holding fewer and fewer of these public meetings every year. Instead of facing their constituents, too many are hiding behind press releases, gated fundraisers, or social media posts. They’ve forgotten that our government is supposed to be of the people, by the people, and for the people—not for political insiders and mega-donors.
That’s why Face the People is fighting back.
We're demanding a return to regular, live, in-person town halls—where real Americans can ask real questions and get real answers. No filters. No moderators. No hiding.
We have three simple, patriotic demands:
Hold an in-person town hall as soon as possible. Democracy doesn’t wait—and neither should we.
Publish the time, date, and location at least seven days before the event. Voters need transparency and time to prepare—not last-minute announcements meant to limit turnout.
Use open mics so that any attendee can ask any question they want—without censorship. No screened questions. No cherry-picked voices. Just the raw truth, from the people themselves.
A town hall isn’t just a meeting. It’s democracy in its rawest, most patriotic form. And when our leaders refuse to show up and listen, they’re not just skipping a meeting—they’re betraying the very foundation of our republic.
